Stefania Carrozzini Gallery, Giudecca, Venice · 18–30 March 2023
In March 2023 I was invited by the curator Stefania Carrozzini to take part in Grammatiche Celesti (Celestial Grammar), a group exhibition of fourteen artists from different countries at her gallery on the Giudecca in Venice.
The exhibition was the second chapter of Grammatiche Terrestri, in which I had shown in Milan and Venice over the winter. Where the first chapter looked to the earth, this one turned to the sky.
I travelled to Venice for the opening on Saturday 18 March.

As in all my exhibitions with Stefania, I showed two paintings from The Blue Pearl Series, Blue Pearl 6A and Blue Pearl 1A, pale fields of blue crossed by soft vertical bands of light. The paintings were not made for the exhibition; rather, the themes of the series, spirituality and the interconnectedness of all things, sit naturally alongside Stefania’s curatorial vision, and her idea of the sky as a symbol of consciousness felt especially close to the work.

Stefania invited the artists to explore the sky not only as a physical space but as a symbol: of freedom, of consciousness, and of the long human wish to read meaning in the stars. Her curatorial text ends with the thought that light is the common nature found in every body, celestial and terrestrial.
